For the concluding phases of their signature Mississauga City Centre development, the Daniels Corporations wanted a sales centre that went above and beyond the typical build.
Status: Built
A higher-caliber level of design was required, as this sales centre will be used for multiple projects that will form the final keystones for the community.
A plaza with a large-scale paving pattern frames the entrance to the building. This area is designed to accommodate special outdoor events in the spring to fall, but is enlivened by the energetic pattern even when not in use.
Mass block plantings of grasses at the edges further activate the space with their soft movement in the wind.
The contractor had difficulty with the original randomised paving design that also required a special material installation.
In response, a modified pattern was developed that uses a repeating module of a widely-available, affordable pavers to create the same impact with little expense.
High-value items, like custom pre-cast benches, were re-used from a past project, and could be further reused on future projects.
In this way, we could achieve the durability and quality needed while still keeping overall costs affordable for what is ultimately a temporary installation.
The restrained yet generous landscape around the sales centre responds to the civic nature of the area, with the Mississauga Living Arts Centres and Civic Centre in the adjacent blocks.
The unique and flexible space provides the perfect selling point for the client who aims to create a lasting impression with their projects in the community.
